Operational Structure
Drive Star currently operates 2 Canadian terminals and 1 USA terminal. Our Central Operations department controls and assigns all of the truck traffic to our Contractors.
Drive Star delivers new and used trucks across Canada and the United States. We handle point to point deliveries as well as cross border traffic. Our customer base is broad and varied. We do however have a strong presence in the vocational truck market, therefore a majority of our deliveries will involve vacuum trucks, cement trucks, garbage trucks and alike.
Once successful in joining our team, you will be assigned to a "Mentor". This person will be the individual charged with the responsibility of ensuring that all of your interactions with Drive Star outside of the dispatch function are handled to your satisfaction. Once assigned to a "Mentor" they will remain your primary contact as long as you are under contract with us.
While on the road for Drive Star you will be assigned a dispatcher on a load by load basis. Once you accept a trip from us the same dispatcher will work with you from the commencement of that trip through to its completion.
Look at it this way, the dispatcher you are assigned too will change on a load by load basis, dispatchers handle truck deliveries using Independent Contractors. On the other hand, Mentors manage relationships. It is most likely that your "Mentor" and "Dispatcher" will be two different people most of the time.
Independent Contractor Opportunities
We are generally looking to recruit and retain two types of Independent Contractors;
" Single's drivers and,
" Deck / Piggyback drivers
SINGLE'S
We have two different categories of Single's drivers that we recruit and train.
These drivers are used to transport our non-specialty, non expedited trucks. Drivers in this category will pick up and deliver trucks throughout the United States and Canada. The trucks being moved vary in size and description, ranging from New and Used Tractors, to Chassis's, Garbage Trucks, Pumper & Water Trucks to Cement Trucks, Cranes and Utility Trucks.
2. The second group of is our "Expedited" class.
These drivers are used to transport our specialty trucks and all expedited truck transfers. Drivers in this category will pick up and deliver trucks throughout the United States and Canada. The trucks being moved vary in size and description and may include some of the same units included above but will also include trucks being moved for shows & exhibitions as well as our "Specialty" high valued trucks like Fire Trucks, Concrete Pumpers and Mobile Command units.
In both categories drivers are paid by the mile and are responsible for the following costs;
Drivers in our "Expedited" group are paid more than those in the "General" group.
All drivers joining Drive Star must start in the "General" category (unless verifiable experience with similar equipment is available) before being graduated to our "Expedited" category.
Our drivers who drive in our "Expedited" group are hand selected and are the "Best Of The Best".
Our Deck / Piggyback drivers are experienced in transporting multiple units commonly called "piggybacked" or "decked' units. These drivers move the decked units in one of three ways;
"Using their own equipment." (Saddles, etc…)
"Using Drive Star's equipment" or,
"Using our customer's equipment"
Driver's must always own and carry their own loading/unloading straps and hand tools. Deck drivers are required to deck and undeck their own loads.
Drivers are paid by the mile and are responsible for the following costs;

Pre-Contract Requirements
1. The first group is our "General" class.
When drivers accept a dispatch they must budget their on road expenses in order to ensure maximum profitability. Trip planning and taking minimal advances is key to success in this business.
DECKS
Drivers are also paid to remove steer tires, fairings, etc… if required. The drivers' mileage rate or the rate negotiated before the trip is accepted by the driver will include the labor to deck and undeck the loads.
Note: If there is deemed to be a conflict between these points and the drivers contract the contract prevails.
